What is Psychoeducational Testing, and How Does It Help My Child?

To help make informed decisions about a child's educational well-being, assessment provides a learning profile to assist with identifying specific areas of strengths and challenges relative to a child's own abilities, the school setting and the national norm. While a dynamic view of the child is obtained, Dr. Hill's testing emphasizes school-related issues and learning strategies.

areas of the brainTesting often involves measures of the following:
• IQ/cognitive reasoning
• Academic achievement in reading, math and written expression
• Processing (speed, visual, auditory, memory, language)
• Fine motor / sensory screening
• Attention
• Social / emotional screening

Why Test?

              1. Several families obtain services simply to obtain a better understanding of how their child learns and/or to assist with the decision-making process for application to private schools.

              2. Many families seek an evaluation to determine why a child is struggling more than expected or is stressed with regard to school and how to help develop solutions.

              3. Some families request assessment to address specific concerns (e.g. learning difference, attention issues, processing) and require referrals for professional intervention (e.g. speech therapy, counseling, tutoring occupational therapy) and/or determination of eligibility for specialized services at school (public or private) or college (e.g. extended time).

What Age & How Often?

Six to 22 years old (ideal ages are 6, 9, 13 and 16 years)

Test results are considered valid for three years; however, some families request an update sooner, while others requires only a one-time evaluation. Most tests cannot be re-administered until one year has passed.
