Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Deposit Policy?
A deposit is required to secure your testing appointment(s) – both as a courtesy to other clients who are trying to schedule, as well as to cover a portion of Dr. Hill’s time should you miss an appointment. Understandably, there are occasionally circumstances that require changes or cancellations, which will be considered on a case-by-case basis if warranted. However, typically, the following applies:

• The deposit is non-refundable.

• The deposit will be applied to the fee for testing when appointments are kept as scheduled.

• A new deposit will be required to secure a rescheduled appointment.

When is payment due?
Full payment is due on the first day of testing. Payment may be made by check or credit card.

Does Dr. Hill accept insurance?
No. However, an itemized statement is provided should you wish to submit to insurance for reimbursement. Check with your insurance company, as 50 to 80% of the cost may be covered, though this is not guaranteed and may depend upon a diagnosis.

What should I tell my child about the testing?
It is recommended that you tell your child that s/he will be working with Dr. Hill (Mrs. Hill or Miss Susan is also acceptable) to see how s/he learns and to provide ways to help teachers, parents, and/or the child. Also, if applicable, the information is used when considering a change in schools.

Why is more than one testing appointment required?
The testing is designed to test the limits of a child’s capabilities, so can be wearing. Children usually perform best when the information is presented in fairly short intervals. Dr. Hill provides considerable effort to make the testing experience positive for your child.

Does the parent need to be present during testing?
Parents are welcome to wait in the reception area, but do not typically accompany the child into the testing room.

Does the child attend the initial consultation or parent conference?
No, unless they are 18 or older. However, a separate, brief conference can be arranged with the child on a date after the parent conference.

Will Dr. Hill attend school meetings?
Yes, but Dr. Hill’s schedule is usually set for several weeks; therefore, notice is needed well in advance.

Does Dr. Hill provide counseling?
No. Dr. Hill only provides assessment-related services. However, referrals can be provided for various interventions, including counseling.

How long are records kept?
Per Texas requirements, records are maintained until the child is 21 years old, or for 7 years if the individual was 18 years of age or older at the time of testing.

Is there a fee to obtain a report from previous years?
Yes. The fee is $35.00
